Local advertising agency wins an ad in Times Square!

Sterling Advertising Company, a brand new Pittsburgh advertising agency focused on local advertising, will be given a free Times Square ad for two days this month. Dell Small Business ran an online contest asking small business owners to express why “your business deserves an ad in Times Square”, and the top 300 answers share an electronic billboard ad in Times Square on July 9th and 10th.
Business owners were requested to submit a photograph of their business and a short statement of less than 50 characters which would finish the statement ‘we believe…’. All winning ads can be viewed online, along with a live webcam of the ads in Times Square on the Dell Small Business website, on July 9th and 10th.
Sterling Advertising Company, a month-old advertising agency founded by Claire Devereux Thompson, entered the contest with the statement ‘Local businesses deserve to thrive’, and included a picture of the company logo of a blue, white and red lion head, on a black background.
The contest entries were judged on the following criteria: 25% originality, 25% expression of theme, 25% clarity of statement and 25% quality of the photo.
Claire Devereux Thompson decided to start a business of her own because, in her previous job as an advertising sales person, she worked with many local business owners who she realized needed more help than she could offer as a sales rep but that were ‘below the interest level’ of the national advertising agencies that operated a Pittsburgh office.
“I always felt like there was so much more marketing help that they needed, and for a price that they could actually live with.” Said Claire. “I’m really glad I’m doing this – I’m originally from London, England, and I hear so much about how Pittsburgh businesses are struggling. It’s fantastic to be able to do something to help them to grow into everything they could be.”
