Claire Devereux Thompson
Biography
Claire is the founder of Sterling Advertising Company. Her strengths are in making advertising work as an integral part of an overall marketing plan, through skilled media buying and negotiation. What sets Claire apart from other media buyers is her understanding of the new frontier of internet advertising and making a web site work as a marketing tool rather than being an expensive printed brochure.
Originally a Londoner, Claire graduated from the College of Communication, University of the Arts, London, but this big city girl has fallen deeply in love with Pittsburgh’s neighborhoods. Her advertising background started at an exhibition design company in London, and followed her through three countries and five cities. Claire has worked in radio, TV, internet and print advertising in multiple markets, and on national campaigns.
Claire’s client experience has been widely varied, ranging through Blue Chip companies to start-ups and non-profits, such as Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, Allegheny General Hospital, Kennywood Amusement Parks, Roomful Express Furniture, Giant Eagle, Post-Gazette Pavilion, Bariatric Weight Loss Centers, Harvest Financial, Wienand and Bagin Attorneys, Pittsburgh Fair Housing Partnership, CostumeFind.com, and many other prestigious organizations.
Along with her duties as President of Sterling Advertising, Claire is the Vice President of Communication for the Media Association of Pittsburgh (MAP) – the region’s premier resource for media professionals. As part of her duties on the Board of MAP, Claire directs a team to produce all of the organization’s communications to their members and prospective members.
Claire was also awarded the Best Account Executive 2006 award by her MAP peers, and has served on the Board of the Business Marketing Association.
